War/No More Trouble | Playing for Change | Song Around The World

Posted on January 31st, 2010 by admin

http://playingforchange.com – As we made our way around the world we encountered love, hate, rich and poor, black and white, and many different religious groups and ideologies. It became very clear that as a human race we need to transcend from the darkness to the light and music is our weapon of the future. This song around the world features musicians who have seen and overcome conflict and hatred with love and perseverance. We dont need more trouble, what we need is love. The spirit of Bob Marley always lives on.

This is the fourth Song Around The World video released from the CD/DVD Playing For Change: Songs Around The World and the follow up to the classics “Stand By Me,” “One Love” and “Don’t Worry.” This unforgetable track was performed by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it traveled the globe.

We Are The Ones Song by will.i.am – Obama

Posted on December 30th, 2009 by admin

people say Obama’s words are just words…
but…
when was the last time “words” weren’t important…???…

when was the last time a great leader didn’t use words to lead…??…
when was the last time a person didn’t use words to describe how they felt…?…
when was the last time “words” weren’t empowering…?…

and we can all recall the last time “words” were used to divide us and install fear…

Bush used words to fear us into voting for him the second time around…
terror this…
terror that…
nuclear here…
weapons of mass destruction there…

and those words effected a lot of people’s choices…

“enough is enough”…
let’s rebuild…

let’s change ourselves…
let’s allow positivity to guide us…

let’s take action….
let’s activate our passion…
we are Americans….

and this is the first time in forever that someone running for president represents “US”…

some say this is all excitement…
I call it “proud to be an American”…

some say this whole Obama movement is “cult like”…
well…
if it comes across cult like…
then…
the cult is called America…

the Obama movement is connecting America.
and it has made “US” realize our importance…
the youth is excited and activated…
adults are passionate and motivated…
the elderly are proud to know the country they built is in safe hands…

we are one…

for too long politics has been corrupt…
separate from the American people…
with agendas that go against what the American people “need”…
education…
health…
safety…
jobs
etc…

politicians have spoken a different language…
making it so the youth and poor people feel as if voting was only for the wealthy and old people…
making “US” feel as if “we” had no voice…
making “US” feel powerless…
making it feel like if “we” did vote it wouldn’t change anything…

but wait…
that did happen…
some of us voted, and it didn’t change anything…

we were in the dark…
we had no voice…
we were powerless…

because America was not a united America…
and “they” spoke a different language…
and they had an agenda different from our well being…

correct me if I’m wrong… or speak up if I’m missing something…

we want education, health, safety, and good jobs…right???…
oh yeah…
and “a healthy planet to live on”…

but here we are…

in a war… poor education… poor health programs… the dollar is down… the planet, polluted…
the rich, richer… and the poor, struggling…
with sky high gas prices to top it all off…

and now even the rich aren’t really rich internationally because our dollar is has fallen so far down…

in our slumber… a very small few got really rich…

because when you’re sleeping…

“it’s hard to change agendas”…

we know what happened in 2000 and 2004…
but in 2008…
it’s different…

we are awake…
and there is a movement…

and “it’s hard to change a movement”…

last time “we” didn’t have a movement…
America wasn’t united…

and now “United and “Standing”…for something…
we know the power of “US”…
and we have a person who represents the “U.S.”…

“US”…

“we are the ones we’ve been waiting for”…

I’m proud to be an American…

will.i.am

Kaws, Former Graffiti (Tag) Artist

Posted on November 5th, 2009 by admin

This segment profiles the artist known as KAWS, former Graffiti (tag) artist turned painter and designer of limited edition toys and clothing. This segment also features some cool clips of KAWS’ art, displayed in Pharrell Williams’ Miami Home and Kanye West’s latest album cover and billboard.

You can catch his next exhibition,
“KAWS, The Long Way Home,” February 21,— April 04, 2009 at the Honor Fraser Gallery in LA

http://www.honorfraser.com/?s=upcoming
or
http://www.honorfraser.com

“I just started simply through graffiti and drawing on my skateboard and painting on walls and getting that small recognition,” said KAWS, known to his family as Brian Donnelly.

KAWS  graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York with a BFA in illustration in 1996. After graduation, KAWS briefly worked for Disney as a freelance animator painting backgrounds. He also contributed to the animated series 101 Dalmations, Daria and Doug.

He began his career as a graffiti artist growing up in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Later moving to NYC in the 1990s, KAWS started subverting imagery on billboards, bus shelters and phone booth advertisements. These reworked advertisements were at first left alone, lasting for up to several months, but as KAWS’ popularity skyrocketed, the ads became increasingly sought after.

In addition to NY, KAWS has done work in Paris, London, Berlin and Tokyo.

In the late 90s, KAWS began to design and produce limited edition vinyl toys, “an instant hit with the global art toy-collecting community,”especially in Japan, where this genre is well respected and widespread. More toys and later clothing were made for Original Fake, a recent collaborative store with Medicom Toy, in the Aoyama district of Tokyo where an original limited edition product is released each week.

KAWS has also participated in other commercial collaborations with Takahashi for Undercover, snowboard projects with Burton, and sneakers with Nike and Vans.

His most recent collaboration was with Comme des Garçons.

KAWS’ acrylic paintings and sculpture have many repeating images, all meant to be universally understood, surpassing languages and cultures.

One of KAWS’ early series, Package Paintings, was made in 2000. This series, entitled The Kimpsons, subverted the famous American cartoon, The Simpsons. KAWS explains that he “found it weird how infused a cartoon could become in people’s lives; the impact it could have, compared to regular politics.”

In addition, KAWS has reworked other familiar icons such as Mickey Mouse, the Michelin Man and the Smurfs.

Through all of his projects, KAWS has successfully blurred the line between fine art and mass-produced merchandise. He uses his products to allow his imagery to infiltrate a larger audience than that of the fine art world.

The artist is currently an active member in both the commercial and fine art communities.

His work is included in the traveling exhibition “Beautiful Losers,” which started at the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center and will be traveling through 2009 throughout the US and Europe.
