What would be a famous female singer to do a project on where I can actually sing one of there song?

I need to do a project for school where I do a memoir on a famous persons life. I would like to do an old female singer where I could dress like her and sing one of her songs,,, Ex. Etta JKames,, Marilyn Monroe.

As far as old female artists, I think Bessie Smith would be a fun project. But honestly, I would do it on the artist Pink. (Alecia Moore)
Although her music is not my all-time favorite, she is a very succesful artist with a really interesting past. I really respect her and I think it would be fun to learn more about her.
