How to kick the lead singer out of our band?

Posted on October 27th, 2009 by admin

He is our lead singer and he owns all of our equipment. He is malicious and rude. He constantly acts like a child at the most inoppurtune times. He rarely wants to practice. We have a gig Sunday and were planning on breaking the news to him after that. This person has been my friend since thrid grade so I would like to stay friends, Hes just not useful in a band setting. If it matters were not replacing him our guitarist is just going to start playing and singing.

if he acts like that then there is no place for him to be in a band. imagine if you guys hit it big time.the media would be all over that and it could affect your band. and it may hurt him and he may not want to be friends with you anymore, but honesty is important and if your band is important to you then you gotta do what you gotta do. he may feel a little better that your not really replacing him.but break it to him easily and make sure to explain to him exactly why you need to kick him out.

When he goes, his stuff will go with him. Get jobs and buy your own stuff before you kick him out.

Your best bet is honesty. Tell him straight up, the situation and how you feel. Be a man about it, since he owns all the gear lol. Let him down easy, and if wants to take all his gear and throw a fit, then so be it. I`ve been playing in a band for 15 years and I`ve always been the one to kick the "emotional" singer out of the group. He`s going to think that he is "the band", and from past experiences, let him think that. Try to find a different position for him even, or tell him to change his attitude, and that this is his final chance to be part of something good, if he doesn’t clean up his act, tell him to hit the road.

    Good Luck man.

if your friends with him either tell him the situation and hopefully he’ll be a man bout it. if he isnt and takes all the gear, get a job and buy more gear. or you can put him on a different instrument like bass or guitar or drums or keyboard or hell, even marracas.
