What is the best classical piano ever composed?

Posted on March 13th, 2010 by admin

Any piece for piano by Mozart or clementi or anyone like that!
Also if you would like, what’s the best modern piece for piano? Doesn’t matter what type just what’s the best!

I base my selection on major concert pianists and their repetoire:

Vlademir [sp?] Horowitz:
– Robert Schumann Kinderszenen – Scenes From Childhood Opus 15
– Johannes Brahms Intermezzo Op. 118, No. 2

For modern piano pieces, I would choose the following French composers:
Gabriel Faure – Barcarolle No. 6 in E-flat Major, Op. 70 (1896)
Francis Poulenc – Improvisation No. 7 in C Major and Novelette No. 1

Good luck!

I don’t know about the best but my favorite has always been Franz Liszt’s Etude no.39 (or Un Sospiro).

There’s many Classical Piano Pieces which are considered amongst the best ever written.
Beethoven – Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata 1st Mvt
Mozart – Rondo Alla Turca (3rd Mvt of his 11th Piano Sonata)
Liszt – Hungarian Rhapsody No,2 in C# Minor (Played in many cartoons such as Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker and Tom and Jerry)
Chopin – Grand Valse Brillante in Bb, Prelude No.4 in E minor, and Etude Op.10 No.12
Brahms – Hungarian Dance No.5 in F# Minor
    There’s many more…
    Hope this helps :)

Mozart Sonata K545 the 1st and 3rd movements are pretty cool. Chopin’s "Minute Waltz" has always been a favorite, but I can’t think of anything else right now.

Well it’s a subjective matter we are speaking about, many people would claim that pieces such as Beethoven’s Bagatelle in A-minor (Or more commonly known as Fur Elise – For Elise) is one of the best pieces because it is so popular.
Other pieces that would be mentioned are Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody 2, Liebestraum no.3, Beethoven’s Moonlight sonata (1st movement and perhaps the 3rd) Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca, Chopin’s Nocturnes, etudes, whatever. Et cetera.

Personally, it is hard to say. But I am guessing you know this is a subjective manner and therefor not seeking an objective answer.
Among my favorite pieces you will find a particular piece by a very unknown composer called Charles Valentine Alkan.

The piece is called "L’incendie au village voisin", meaning "Fire in the neighborhood village". It’s a very programmatic piece, you can really imagine yourself there. Here’s a link for it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XMSxnAqLJc
Personally this is as close to perfection you can get.

    Hope you enjoyed it mate!
