Yamaha is a good one to start with. About 5 years ago, they came out with the DGX line of pianos. The 88 key version of it (DGX-500) is lightly weighted. It's a first generation model. They've since come out with the 505 and 510 models. Each of these sound exactly identical to the original, but with a few more bell and whistles that you probably don't need. You can find the original model on ebay for about $350 which is very reasonable, and it sounds amazing for the price. I've been playing and composing for 12 years, and I've been using this model since it came out, and still love it. It's great for beginners as well as seasoned veterans without a bunch of extra cash. And no, I don't work for Yamaha. This is my own experience.
References :
I know it's discontinued, but I have a Technics PC-8. Good for beginners and experts alike.
References :
Yamaha would be your best bet. My husband has one and he loves it. Also, they tested them on one of those shopping shows on TV and everyone preferred the Yamaha.
