How does the music we listen to affect our behavior?

Posted on October 28th, 2009 by admin

I’m doing a paper and I wanted some outsider input. How does what we listen to affect what we do? Does listening to music like Slipknot really provoke murders or is this just a convenient scapegoat?

lol i am listening to music from india right now , doesnt mean i will open my third eye and start dancing funny as i listen to it ? lol no

hmmm i think it depends pretty much of the state of the mind of each individual and the intentions as well , some listen to music to relax others to get happy others to let their rage out , or meditate and others to identify with the lyrics and dont feel alone in their situation

for example someone who went through a breakup will listen to breakup songs to feel that someone else went through the same as well and either dwell in the pain or let it all out

its all about options no lyrics in a song can make anyone do anything they dont really want to do unless they are really gullible !

BUT it has been proved in certain experiment that if you repeatably listen to songs with a bad meaning and concept to them you may adopt that kind of attitude , rap songs with a lot of bad words can be a bad inffuence in young people who identify with the getto audience , same with rockers and satanic stuff , if they take it too seriously they may take it to the next level as well

I have been affected greatly by music my entire life. However, I have been uplifted by it, not coerced into violence. I think the repetitive nature of some music can make derogatory lyrics cement themselves into your brain and that can make you possibly let something slip out of your mouth that you normally wouldn’t. But if a song makes a person commit murder, wow, that’d be one powerful song. Some people have mental health issues and anything can set them off.

trance is thought to be thought-provoking. Without lyrics or limited, you can think freely. It can take you to another ‘world’ so to speak where you can escape reality’s distractions and think and concentrate much easier. I would say some music can strongly influence the brain and even control it in some cases.

There is a story today in Newsweek or possibly http://www.livescience.com about the power of music. Classical music calms people down, and is lousy as a booster in the bedroom.  Hard rock greatly stimulates the brain for activity, be it dancing or exercise. But it affects individuals differently. If you’re already a white supremacist, listening to skinhead bands will just confirm you in your ignorance.Try it yourself. Listen to a love ballad like "Yesterday" by the Beatles and then Deep Purple’s "Speed Demon."
