  2. Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings – hands down.

    No other lyrical (not with lyrics) piece has more pure sorrow than this.

    It was played by the BBC America Orchestra four days after 9/11. (as a memorial)

  3. You know there is NO SUCH thing as an "instrumental song." By definition a song has lyrics… or WORDS.
    The Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber is a good, but perhaps overused example.
