How does an artist charge for their work?

Posted on January 30th, 2010 by admin

I have an idea for a picture and I am currently searching for an artist, my pictures will be reproduced and sold for profit but how does an artist charge. Are work for hire flexible or do an artist receive one payment for their work.

All depends on the artist (skill level and notoriety), the type of work involved (medium), and the amount of work involved. Obviously, an artist with a gallery representation or a resume of substantial freelance/commission work will charge more. Also, oil paintings and similar traditional work will be more labor intensive and time consuming and thus more expensive. So it really all comes down to the type of work you need done.
